Raul Proença qualifies two teams for the World Robot Olympiad

The Programming and Robotics Club of Agrupamento de Escolas Raul Proença secured qualification for two teams at the World Robot Olympiad (WRO), which will take place in December in Puerto Rico.

The national stage of the competition was held at Agrupamento de Escolas Augusto Cabrita, in Barreiro, under the organisation of ANPRI, the body responsible for coordinating the national WRO trials in Portugal. The club took part in the competition with six teams, competing in the Robosports, Robomission Junior and Percurso Volta a Portugal categories.

The students stood out throughout the competition with outstanding results. In the Robosports category, they won 1st and 2nd place. In the Robomission Junior category, they filled the entire podium, taking 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. In Percurso Volta a Portugal, they achieved 1st place.

These results made it possible for two teams to qualify to represent Portugal at the World Robot Olympiad, in the Robosports and Robomission Junior categories, reflecting the work developed by the students throughout the year in programming and robotics.

The WRO RoboSports competition consists of a competitive game in which two teams, each with two autonomous robots, play a match on a field, requiring coordination, strategy and real-time responsiveness. The Robomission Junior competition is based on carrying out autonomous missions on a previously defined playing field, in which the robots, programmed by the students, must solve specific tasks without any intervention during the trial, testing the precision, autonomy and effectiveness of the solutions developed.

The club's participation highlights the growing interest of students in technological fields, as well as the development of essential skills such as logical reasoning, creativity, problem solving and teamwork.

The event was attended by the Minister of Education, Science and Innovation, Fernando Alexandre, who had the opportunity to follow the competitions and see at first hand the work carried out by the various participating teams, showing interest in the projects developed by the club's students.

With qualification now secured, the two teams will prepare to take part in the World Robot Olympiad, where they will represent Portugal in Puerto Rico, carrying the name of the school group and the region to an international benchmark stage in educational robotics. They are currently seeking support to make this experience possible.
